Teresa Oaxaca Masterclass- 3/4 portrait
In September 2018, I undertook my largest work yet with the master artist who started my atelier journey, the absolutely divine and inspiring Teresa Oaxaca.

If you don't know her, check our her work and incredible bio here:

She is one of the loveliest and most knowledgeable people I have ever met. Her work is literally breathtaking and I have learned so, so much from her over the years. She is a wonderful expert teacher and a fascinating person, and she put me at ease.Ā
Over the three masterclasses I've been lucky enough to attend with her, Teresa has taught me everything from colour mixing, anatomy, pigments, the language of ateliers, how to work with a live model, the importance of light and shadow, how to get a likeness, how to arrange and orchestrate an image. She is like an angel with a paintbrush.

With Teresa

My name in ogham!
Teresa's incredible portraits are thrillingly busy with still life elements and pops of colour. This was a chance to see her demo on a large-scale and work with my own model, the lovely Sarah.

Day 2 with Sarah.
Five days of intensive painting, long discussions about homemade paint and anatomy and chroma, and utilising the sight size method and comparative method, I finally completed my piece.Ā

On reflection, I wish I had had more time for the still life portions, particularly the cast. There is always next time! I cannot wait to work with her again.
