Holly Bush Emerging Woman Painter Prize Finalist 2019

I am absolutely thrilled to share my experience as one of 21 finalists for the Holly Bush Emerging Woman Painter Prize 2019 in Hampstead, London. Nearly 500 women artists applied, so I was humbled and overjoyed to be recognised and to take part.

The piece I entered was my oil painting, 'Eat Men Like Air,' a portrait with art noveau inspiration, named after the famous line from Plath. She is a feminist piece; my concept was for the object of 'the gaze' to gaze back with a challenge, some contempt, and a sense of power and seduction.

The Holly Bush Woman Painter Prize is 'generously sponsored by The Holly Bush Hampstead, Dame Emma Thompson, Fuller's Brewery, Women in Art Fair, and Cass Art Hampstead. Supported by Lisa Gray of Flux, Nono Chocolates, The Pure Planet Company and The Hampstead Village BID, The Holly Bush Emerging Woman Painter Exhibition and Award 2019 is part of a wider project to assist and celebrate women artists and focuses on the careers of emerging female painters.

This prize is aimed at supporting, encouraging and mentoring emerging women painters. Each year 21 artists are chosen from a competition to exhibit at Burgh House, Hampstead, London. From these 21 talented women the first prize is awarded to a painter who has demonstrated exceptional potential to become an established professional artist.'

This was my first time exhibiting in London, and it was a truly special experience. It was wonderful and inspiring to meet so many talented women artists and the lovely Sue Ecclestone of Ecclestone Art Agency.

I look forward to submitting again in 2020!
